Understanding Systematic Review Development and the Implementation of the findings in clinical practice.

The rise of the Evidence-based Dentistry signals a growing awareness among dentists of the potential benefits of making better use of reliable scientific evidence in the treatment decision making process. This session introduces some of the basic concepts of Evidence-Based Decision Making. The emphasis throughout is on demonstrating the significant potential to improve both the use and usefulness of systematic reviews in clinical decision-making process.

Learning Objectives:

• Understand the rationale and concepts of evidence-based dentistry.

• Understand the hierarchies of evidence in guiding clinical decision making.

• Common myths and misconceptions about systematic reviews.

• Understand the differences between systematic and “traditional” reviews • Conduct a rapid critical appraisal of a systematic review and interpret its finding.
